The Executive Board is supported by a non-executive Industry Board. Advisory Board membership is a by invitation only membership category extended by HCI to industry thought leaders in 12-15 high growth, new economy and service sectors that account for an ever increasing share of GDP, exports, and job creation in South Africa.

HCI Advisory Board Membership positions selected companies as progressive benefactor of research, scholarship and education in talent management. By aligning company brand with HCI's initiatives, these organisations are growing awareness, trust and a value-based relationship with a wide audience of human capital management professionals and executives.

The invited company represents their industry sector, and only 1 chair per sector per annum is extended by invitation only making this a highly strategic position to occupy.

Gary Stocks started out his career in business consulting and gained 10 years experience in this field both locally and in the UK. This work included assignments in a number of different industries, such as banking and financial services, retail and property development. Gary joined BSG (Africa) in 1997 as a consultant and worked in both the business consulting and software development divisions, before turning his attention to strategy. Over the past 3 years, Gary has been responsible for leadership development and performance management, helping to build a strong culture of reward and recognition, individualised career development and community. His role also includes the challenge to make HR a strategic talent development function at BSG. Gary holds a Masters degree in Business Science from the University of Cape Town.

Ruwayne Kock is a shareholder at The Human Resource Practice, where he is the head of the consulting service line. A registered Industrial Psychologist, Ruwayne possesses a wealth of people management consulting experience in a variety of industries, including the Retail, Financial, Telecommunications and Public Service sectors. His consulting experience encompasses Strategic HR Management; Leadership; Talent Management; Employee Engagement; Organisational Design; Strategic Learning and Development; Organisation Development and Change Management, to name a few. Ruwayne has published articles and is also a sought-after conference presenter in the Talent Management and Employee Engagement fields. Ruwayne is an advisory board member of the Human Capital Institute (HCI) Africa and University of Johannesburg’s Human Resource Management Programme. He is also the chairperson of the Institute of People Management Convention Planning Committee for 2010.
Prof. Shirley Zinn: HR Director, Nedbank

Prof. Shirley Zinn is the Director of HR at Nedbank. Prior to this, she was the General Manager for Human Resources at the South African Revenue Service (SARS). Shirley is also an Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria's Department of Human Resource Management. In addition to serving on the Monash South Africa Board, she also is the Chairperson of the Institute of Bankers South Africa and sits on the Council of the Banking Sector Education and Training Authority. She holds an M.Ed (University of the Western Cape) and an Ed D in Education (Harvard).

Barry globally leads the development of talent management solutions in the EPI-USE group. He is based in South Africa and France. He has been involved in learning, information technology, knowledge and talent management for the last 18 years, is a registered Master HR Practitioner and holds a Master's degree in Computer-Aided Education from the University of Pretoria. Amongst others, Barry has worked at and with ABSA Bank, Africa Growth Network, IBM/Lotus, AST, BMW, British American Tobacco, Standard Bank, DaimlerChrylser, Rand Merchant Bank, the UNISA School for Business Leadership, USB-ED, Tecan, Lonmin, Anglo Platinum, EADS and Eskom. Barry's interests range form enterprise architecture and e-learning to HCM analytics and has spoken and commented on these topics at several conferences. Barry is currently investigating the link between talent management and business performance.
Ed Dexter

Ed Dexter has an M.A. degree in Education from Fordham University, New York, and is a master trainer for numerous Development Dimensions International (DDI), Pittsburgh, USA and the Huthwaite Research Group's management, competency based selection, assessment centre and sales programmes. Ed's early career was spent in various Human Resource positions at Blue Chip companies such as Eskom, NCR and Unilevver. Ed consulting experience over the last 20 years has been spent in senior consulting and Executive Management positions with the Contact Group of which he was a co-founder, Quality Management Associates and MAC consulting. As an 'elder statesman' in the management and Human Resource consulting space Ed acts as an independent consultant to companies such as Nedbank and MNet amongst others.
Martin Sutherland

Martin is International Director for the Peopletree Group, a human capital professional group focusing on leadership talent management, and related advisory services. Prior to the formation of the Peopletree Group, Martin was a director of Simeka, at the time the largest public relations and communications company in South Africa. Otto Pretorius

Otto Pretorius, director of QBit Align (Pty) Ltd, qualified as a psychologist in 1995 at the Buffalo State University, USA. Prior to this he obtained a B.Comm degree, majoring in Accounting, a B.Comm Honours degree in Information Systems and a Master's degree in Information Sciences at the University of Pretoria,. Since 1997 he has started to focus on business only. As managing director of Mind Crew, senior business consultant of Ernst & Young and director at QBit, he has nurtured his ability to focus on the dynamic interface between people, business processes and technology from an operational and strategic perspective. Over the past nine years he has focused on the Human Capital environment and its potential to become a strategic business partner. Valdi Pereira

Valdi Pereira is Editor-in-Chief of CEO Communications and has several years experience in financial and business management journalism. His particular areas of interest include technological innovation, entrepreneurship, business leadership and organisational change. Fidelis Vusi Dlamini's background lies in human resources management, legal services and business development.

Vusi's academic qualifications include a BA Law degree, LLB, (UNISWA), LL.M (University of Chicago), MBL (UNISA), Advanced Labour Law (UNISA) and Diploma in Human Resources Management (Damelin)

His career has included senior HR and management positions at numerous blue chip organisations, namely Sappi, Cadbury Schweppes and Consol Glass. He worked for Denel, initially as a Legal Services and HR Manager, before his promotion to Group Manager Human Resources and thereafter Group Director Human Resources. In January 2000, Vusi joined South African Airways as the Vice President Human Resources and was later promoted to Executive Vice President Human Resources. In February 2003, Vusi joined Dimension Data South Africa as Executive Director Human Resources and later took up a position as Executive Director Business Development for the public sector space.

He has served on numerous boards, ie Denel (resigned 2000), Dimension Data SA (resigned 2005), Paracon Holdings (resigned 2005). He currently serves on the following boards: Real Global Business Solutions (resigned 2008) Business Against Crime, Steradian Consulting, Vumile Logistics and Sentech Plessey Bursary Fund trust.
Ms. Nadene Venter

Nadene Venter is a Registered Industrial Psychologist and Managing Director of SHL South Africa, a world leading provider of objective assessment and development solutions.

Nadene has been part of SHL for the last eleven years. During this time she has focused on areas of competency-based recruitment and assessments, career development, performance management, organisation development and the facilitation of training and development interventions at all levels - assisting companies in the public sector, manufacturing, financial and service industries.

Before entering into consulting, she was employed by the Military Psychological Institute (MPI) where she completed her Internship as Industrial Psychologist. She also worked in the Public and Private sector as an HR Consultant and Generalist for a period of four years.

Nadene holds a M. Comm. Degree Cum Laude from the Rand Afrikaans University (now called University of Johannesburg). She received the Chancellor’s medal for the best Masters degree student in the Faculty of Commerce.
Dr. Paddy Padayachee

Dr Arunechellan Dayanundan Padayachee started his career in Education as an Educator in Mathematics and Science, soon progressing to Chief Superintendent of Education. During 2007 he was appointed as Deputy Director General of the Human Resource Planning and Development Agency under the Department of Education with a focus on the development and implementation of a Talent pipeline strategy and development of SME sector. Various Human Resource Development Initiatives migrated into the Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA) as from 1 April 2008. Dr AD Padayachee is currently in the post of Deputy Director-General in the Gauteng City Region Academy.

The rationale for establishing the Academy is embedded in the strategic shift of the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) towards building Gauteng into an integrated and globally competitive region. The GCR Academy will cover various scarce skills capacity assessments and new improved HRD interventions that will extend to all local governments on a collaborative basis.

He has a BSc. Degree in Science, Higher diploma in Education, Honours degree in Mathematics and a D.ED in the Management of Curriculum in Education.
